The analysis of symbolic meaning in this tradition is based on Clifford Geertz’s theory of symbols. The research method used is qualitative with an ethnographic approach. Data collection techniques include passive participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data was tested using source triangulation, while data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the Rejeban traditional consists of fibe main elements: (1) the origin of the pesarean (grave site), (2) the time of implementation, (3) the place of implementation, (4) the participants involved in the tradition, and (5) the stages of the rotual process. The ritual process is divided into two phases: the pre-imolementation phase include preparatory meetings and the arrangement of uborampe (ritual offerings), while the implementation phase includes grave cleaning, the slaughtering of a female wedhus gembel, a communal feast, and a traditional jaran kepang performance. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection was carried out using observation, interviews, and documentation techniques. Geertz's symbolism theory was applied to interpret the symbols of offerings in the tedhak siten tradition. The results of the study show that the tedhak siten tradition consists of elements of the origin of the tradition, the time of implementation, the place of implementation, the actors of the tradition, and the sequence of implementation of the tradition. The tedhak siten tradition is still preserved as a cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation by the Javanese people. The tedhak siten tradition is performed when a child is pitung lapan (1 lapan: 35 days in the Javanese calendar) or 245 days in the Gregorian calendar. The symbolic meaning of each offering, such as the seven-colored jadah, sugar cane ladder, chicken cage, and udhik-udhik, represents the parents' hopes for their child's future, that they will become an independent, moral individual who is useful to society. This tradition also reflects the acculturation between Javanese culture and Islamic teachings that still exists in modern society.
2025-11-30T22:48:58+07:00Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Ilmu Bahasa, Sastra dan Pengajarannya
